FUNDED: Lingvist raises $8 million Series A

Lingvist, an adaptive learning platform for languages, raised a $8 million Series A led by Rakuten with participation from existing investors Smartcap, Inventure and Jaan Tallinn.

Founded in 2013, Lingvist raised a €1 million Seed round last year and has signed up over 100,000 learners. The platform claims to teach a language in 200 hours.

FUNDED: Domoscio raises €250,000 from Inventures

Domoscio, a French edtech startup that connects cognitive science and big data for adaptive learning solutions, raised 250,000 Euros from Inventures.

Founded in 2013, Domoscio is a SaaS provider that integrates easily into existing content from educational publishers. The startup will use the new funds to expand into markets outside of France.

EDBRIEF: Rovio’s Fun Learning is looking for Investors

Finnish mobile game maker Rovio announced that it will spin off its digital learning and edutainment project Fun Learning to double down on games, media and consumer products, reports Reuters. The company will cut 213 jobs, most of them in Finland.

EDBRIEF: OpenClassrooms Premium free for Job Seekers in France

Job seekers in France now have free access to the premium offers of Paris-based online course platform OpenClassrooms.

Announced in April by French President François Hollande, the partnership between Pôle Emploi and OpenClassrooms is part of the new governmental initiative L’Emploi Store. OpenClassrooms provides job seekers access to over 1,000 courses and downloadable material on the platform free of charge over the course of three months.

In July OpenClassrooms launched  France’s first fully online training recognized by the state in partnership with Studialis Group.
