The classroom of the future requires an interplay between technology and educational content. The best laptops, tablets or electronic whiteboards don’t have much use if there is no interactive content that takes advantage of the possibilities those technologies offer.
Mozaik Education out of Hungary offers an entire suite of products that help teachers and administrators to make the most out of classroom technology.
Introduce your startup and give a short description of what you are doing.
MozaLearn is a complete system of digital solutions for teachers, students, school administrators, and textbook publishers. We’ve developed many programs, including presentation software for use on interactive displays in classrooms, and an online application for making textbooks into interactive e-books. In addition, we are continually developing new content to complement our solutions, including interactive 3D scenes, and educational audio clips, videos, tools and games to meet the needs of education ministries, K-12 teachers and students, and publishers worldwide.
What is the main problem in education that you aim to solve.
Educational technology is booming right now, but the problem is that too many educational institutions and governing organizations are so focused on the type of hardware they’re buying that they’ve completely missed the essence of digital education: the content that helps teachers teach and students learn. What good is a nearly-empty tablet or digital display? The industry is in pieces with a lot of companies providing a lot of niche applications, and everyone is expecting the teachers to build something out of the mess.
We’re trying to make it easier for teachers to build their digital classroom by providing a structure. Our solution is a comprehensive one: we offer the software and content together, while letting teachers add in the resources they already know and trust, too. We strive to provide a way for teachers to plan lessons more quickly, and to help improve the quality of lessons and presentations by providing tools, games and resources for K-12 subjects to help demonstrate new topics in a way that’s fun, effective, and memorable for students. Students and teachers can also share what they’ve made with each other.
In which markets / regions are you active. What markets / regions are next.
We are active in Europe, the Middle East and South America. We plan to start connecting with schools and companies in North America and Asia this year.
Who is your target audience.
Teachers and students are who we’ve developed our products for. We also work with publishers to make enriched digital versions of their own textbooks, including interactive educational content. Finally, we partner with distributors and education ministries for various regions.
How do you engage with your target audience. How do you convert them into users of your product.
We attend international education and technology shows regularly, because giving demonstrations and letting people actually try our products is what gets people really enthusiastic about our company. We also reach out to different organizations to let them know about our products, giving Skype or web conference demonstrations frequently.
What is your business model. How much does your product / service cost.
We sell directly to teachers and schools, as well as through partners, such as distributors and publishers.
Our system is subscription-based.
Who are your competitors? What sets you apart from them?
Many hardware producers have developed their own software to go with their interactive whiteboards and displays and tablets. Unfortunately, these are usually no more advanced than a simple presentation software with (possibly) a few colorful plug-ins.
We are different because, although we are a startup in digital education, we have over 25 years of experience in educational publishing. Not many of our competitors in the IT field can say the same. We have a unique team here, including very knowledgeable and talented group of developers and a department of educational experts. This team has worked closely with teachers and students for the last 8 years in order to develop our digital solutions. Our software looks very professional, however it is very intuitive and teachers find it easy to use in the classroom, no matter their level of experience.
Our content offering is another thing that really sets us apart. Students are really enthusiastic about our interactive and 3D content.
Are there milestones you are especially proud of and would like to share.
– We are proud of becoming the number one publisher here in Hungary.
– Teachers have started using our software in teacher training programs here, which sets a great example – training teachers to thrive in the digital world is key to school and student success.
– Our digital solutions are used in over 70% of the domestic schools. Reaching that number was incredible for us.
– We launched the first international version of mozaBook in 2013.
What are the next steps in growing your startup.
Our software is now available in 20 languages and we are continuously translating our educational content and tools, too. A bit of linguistic- and curriculum-based tweaking is all our product needs to work in new markets. Our next step is getting a few great partner pilot schools in different regions to give us feedback and then it’s our and our partners’ job to spread the word, attending exhibitions, reaching out to schools and talking to publishers, too.
Room for anything else you would like to add.
