HEDLINE: Uniplaces raises $24 million Series A

Uniplaces, a student accommodation marketplace, raised a $24 million Series A led by Atomico with participation from existing investors Octopus Ventures, Shilling Capital Partners, and co-investor Caixa Capital.

Founded in 2012 in Lisbon, Portugal Uniplaces now lists over 40,000 student accommodation rooms in 38 cities across nine European countries and has generated over $25 million in bookings.

FUNDED: Lingvist raises $8 million Series A

Lingvist, an adaptive learning platform for languages, raised a $8 million Series A led by Rakuten with participation from existing investors Smartcap, Inventure and Jaan Tallinn.

Founded in 2013, Lingvist raised a €1 million Seed round last year and has signed up over 100,000 learners. The platform claims to teach a language in 200 hours.

HEDLINE: Macat closes $30 million Angel Round

Macat, a London-based edtech startup that is working on an online learning platform and critical thinking tool, announced that it has closed a $30 million Angel Round. Macat previously raised an undisclosed $20 million from a group of angel investors.

Founded in 2012, Macat works with leading academics who create accessible analyses and multimedia content of seminal texts like The Art of War, Capital in the 21st Century, Clash of Civilizations, The Selfish Gene or The Second Sex.

The new funding will be used to add more content to the platform and for global expansion.

FUNDED: Domoscio raises €250,000 from Inventures

Domoscio, a French edtech startup that connects cognitive science and big data for adaptive learning solutions, raised 250,000 Euros from Inventures.

Founded in 2013, Domoscio is a SaaS provider that integrates easily into existing content from educational publishers. The startup will use the new funds to expand into markets outside of France.
