French MOOC platform OpenClassrooms has raised €6 million from existing investor Alven Capital and BPI, Citizen Capital and Xavier Niel.
OpenClassrooms’ courses are mainly in the area of digital skills and entrepreneurship aiming to tackle the skills gap. This approach is similar to Berlin-based CareerFoundry which raised $5 million in April or Udemy which entered Europe in 2014 with its first overseas office in Dublin.
Last year OpenClassrooms partnered with Studialis to offer the first online training recognized by the French state which later the same year provided job seekers with free access to premium content on the MOOC portal.
The new funding will be used to create new degree certifications as well as for expansion into other European markets including Spain and the UK.
