Edtech UK, a new strategic body supported by the mayor of London and London & Partners and endorsed by the UK government, officially launched on Wednesday with 25 founding members.
The organisation is led by Ian Fordham and Ty Goddard who also founded the think tank Education Foundation.
According to Edtech UK and London & Partners, edtech is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country with over 1,000 startups and accounting for 4% of all digital business.
Unsurprisingly, London is the country’s epicenter of edtech with 200 edtech startups being based in the capital. The city’s mayor Boris Johnson states
“London has all the ingredients to become the edtech capital of the world – a thriving technology sector, the city is globally recognised for education excellence and a leading financial centre.”
A major driver for the adoption of edtech are schools spending more than £900 million a year on education technology.
