In the third quarter of 2016, investments in European education technology surpassed €65 million coming from over 39 investors across 22 deals. The majority of deals (17) was closed in September.
The average investment size in Q3 in Europe was between €500k to €800k with the exceptions of Matific ($45m), OpenClassrooms (€6m), Klaxoon (€5m), Lightneer (€2.8m) and SpeachMe (€2.2m) securing the highest investments this quarter.
Geographically, France took the lead with a total of 7 deals, followed by Germany with 4 and Finland with 3 edtech investments while only two UK based edtech startups raised investment in the third quarter, according to our research.
In terms of popularity, the K-12 and Professional Education verticals each attracted 7 investments, followed by Higher Education with 3 rounds.
